Ultra Music Festival Ends on a Bad Note

ऀUltra Music Festival is a yearly electronic music festival that takes place in Miami every March. The event is held in Bayfront Park and has been a staple in the Miami music scene since 1999. Although Ultra brings the city of Miami a great amount of fiscal benefits, there have been more and more reported tragedies that have occurred during the festival that have city officials wondering if hosting the festival is even worth it.

ऀThis year, the festival brought around 50,000 – 60,000 people each day but also resulted in over 80 arrests and many more than that needed emergency medical treatment. Many people are concerned about the arrests and safety concerns of those in attendance and are looking for the best option.

ऀAside from arrests, Ultra Music Festival resulted in one death this year as well as the trampling of a security guard on site. 21 year old Adonis Escoto was found dead in a parked car that weekend after complaining of dizziness. Escoto’s friends believed he had too much to drink and just needed to rest. That night, he was pronounced dead. The same weekend, Erica Mack, who was working as a security guard for the event, was trampled after a mob of people took down a fence in an attempt to get in without tickets. Mack is in critical condition and suffered a broken leg and brain hemorrhaging.

Now, the mayor and city commissioner want to cancel Ultra Music Festival or at the very least change the venue to a safer environment. Only time will tell what the resolution will be.
