As summer begins roadwork continues to grow throughout this busy time of year. Every nine minutes, someone is injured in a highway work zone. It is important to keep your eyes on the road and follow the directions of the signs. Many of these accidents and injuries can be avoided if we followed these helpful tips:

·      Slowing Down. Speed is one of the leading causes of work zone related crashes. Take your time, just because it might still be on the highway doesn’t mean there’s not a change in traffic

You may continue the normal speed and traffic pattern after you see the sign that you’ve left the work zone.
·      No tailgating. Speed and rear end collision are top reasons for accidents. Keeping a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you are important. The change in traffic pattern can cause quick changes in driving.
·      Minimize Distractions. It is important during anytime of driving to avoid distractions. Work zones need to change road traffic; staying alert to these changes is extremely helpful.
·      Stay Patient. It is important to remain calm. Work zones can add traffic and delays trying to reach your destination. Remember the work zones crew is working on improving the road to make your job easier.
