One of the Worst Driving Distractions on the Road: Your Kids

Drivers tend to do lots of silly things to distract them from the road. From eating food, putting on make-up, talking on the phone to even just jamming out too hard to their radio. However, there seems to be an even bigger unavoidable distraction to parents, their kids! In a study, researchers found that children are twelve times more distracting to drivers. Their data shows that on average parents take their eyes off the roads for a surprisingly three minutes and twenty two seconds during a 16-minute trip.

Distractions vary in their type and frequency when kids are in the car, parents find themselves doing all sort of things like breaking up fights, interacting with their children, looking at them in the rearview mirror, reaching into the back seat to give them food or a drink or simply play to keep fussy babies from crying. We know driving demands a lot of attention and it can be a bit stressful for most but there are solutions. Experts say the first thing to do is set up car rules so the children know what to expect. If they drop something the driver cannot pick it up until the car stops.
