Severe Flooding in Florida panhandle and Alabama

The tornado storms that swept the central and southern United States earlier this month ended up affecting the Florida panhandle as well as Alabama. Severe flooding hit the area after the storm brought fatalities and destruction through the South. People had to resort to seeking shelter on their rooftops to get away from the floods after about 2 feet of rain fell in the span of just one day in Florida and Alabama. Boats had to be used to help those residents who had been stranded after the storm.

As if the destruction wasn’t shocking enough, the Pensacola airport reported that the storm set a record for the rainiest 24 hours the city has seen since 1880. The storm that stemmed the vigorous flooding ended up killing about 38 people in 8 different states. Floods are among the most common hazards in the United States and it’s important to know how to stay safe in the event of a storm. Before a flood, make an emergency/communication plan. Make sure everyone is on the same page. During a flood make sure you’re listening to the radio or television for information. Don’t walk through moving water to avoid an accident.
