ऀSt. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year on March 17th. The story of St. Patrick is quite an interesting one. Most of us assume that St. Patrick was Irish –but he, in fact, was not. When he was 16 years old he was captured by Irish raiders. He spent 6 years in prison and eventually converted to Christianity while being held captive. Once he was released he became a missionary in Ireland.

When he died on March 17th, 461 AD he wasn’t well known. It wasn’t until centuries later that he was named the Patron Saint of Ireland. One myth tells us that he was known for cleansing the country of Ireland of paganism and also for using the 3 leaves of the shamrock to explain the holy trinity. Eventually, people in Ireland started wearing shamrocks on March 17th to honor their Patron Saint Patrick and celebrate their Irish pride.

Wearing a shamrock evolved into wearing green every March 17th to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the Patron Saint of Ireland as well as the culture, heritage and emergence of Christianity in Ireland.
